The Sacred Stone Column of A Zoi is located in Pa Ring village, Hong Ha commune, 22 km from the center of A Luoi town and 50 km from Hue city along National Highway 49 – Road 12. To reach this destination, visitors must take a 20-minute boat ride across the Bo River.
In the pristine and remarkable landscape of A-Nu, a legendary tale surrounds Zoi, a man deeply immersed in his solitary life by the stream, renowned for his extraordinary strength. Living alone, Zoi was always seen with his massive stone, TimoZoi, which appeared as light as a dry twig in his hands. Every fishing trip saw Zoi accompanied by his stone and fishing rod, skillfully carving intricate patterns into the stone.
One day, a group of workers ventured into the forest, struggling to clear rattan and timber trapped between the rocks in the stream. They sought Zoi’s help. Initially silent, Zoi responded after their third plea. He agreed to assist on the condition that they provided him with three offerings: a tray of rice, a tray of liquor and water, and a tray of meat and fish. The group swiftly gathered the requested items and brought them to Zoi, astonished as he consumed everything in no time.
Zoi performed his “miracle” by transforming the stone TimoZoi into a force of nature. The obstructed stream was freed, allowing the rattan and timber to flow down to the lowlands, much to the amazement and gratitude of the workers. News of Zoi’s abilities spread, reaching even the ears of the king.
The king summoned Zoi, but he refused multiple times, wary of his own power. Enraged, the king coerced Zoi into demonstrating his “miracle” before a large audience. Before proceeding, Zoi warned of the severe consequences but was compelled to act. His actions caused the king and many others to vanish without a trace.
According to the king’s promise, Zoi ascended to the throne and ruled peacefully. However, the original king’s return eventually led to Zoi’s demise. The people, honoring Zoi, erected the Sacred Stone Column of A Zoi at his gravesite, turning it into a place of worship and hope for good fortune and peace.
The Sacred Stone Column of A Zoi, or TimoZoi, symbolizes not only extraordinary strength but also serves as a revered site where visitors can offer prayers and seek blessings.
